Men's leather jacket

How to choose a men’s jacket to look stylish and sophisticated is a difficult question that every guy should take seriously. In fact, very few men are meticulous in choosing clothes, even classic style. Meanwhile, today stores offer a huge selection of jackets, it is possible to choose a model for any weather and in any style.

In general, among the representatives of the stronger sex, there is an opinion that a jacket is something uncomfortable, restricting movement. However, what can you look even more presentable in? After all, it is the classics that are always in fashion. It is simply important to make the right choice not only by the appearance of the clothing item, but also by the style and size. Let’s figure out how to choose the right jacket to emphasize your style and not lose the feeling of comfort.

2 criteria for choosing a men’s jacket

  1. Jacket styles

Jackets can be divided into two types.

Single-breasted jacket. This model has buttons on one side and loops on the other. This type of garment is always fastened vertically.

Double-breasted model. Buttons are on both sides (shelves) and they are located symmetrically. It is usually fastened with one or two buttons.

The first type of jackets is more common, as it is more versatile and such a model is easy to choose according to the figure.

  1. Number of buttons

  • One button

If a jacket has only one button, then according to the rules of etiquette it should be buttoned. Such models, as a rule, do not belong to office options.

  • Two buttons

The design feature of the fastening of such jackets has remained unchanged since the second half of the last century. The first to wear such models were US bank employees. It is fastened only on the top button.

  • Three-button fastening

This jacket model is the least conservative, suitable for everyday wear and business meetings in an informal setting. The lapel covers the top button. The requirements for the number of fastened buttons are not strict. Only the bottom one must be unbuttoned, the middle one buttoned, the top one – at the discretion of the wearer.

  • Four buttons.

The jacket has patch pockets and is of a sporty style. The lapels in such models are narrower than in the previous ones. The bottom button always remains unbuttoned according to the rules.

Choosing the Right Size Men’s Jacket

The parameters of the jacket must comply with strict canons that regulate its length, width at the shoulders and chest, as well as the length of the sleeves.

Jacket length

It is better to choose a product that ends at the level of the knuckles.

But since today fashion more freely accepts deviations from strict rules, it is better to focus on your own feelings, body type and rely on your vision and style.

Another rule, which, however, is based on a completely logical argument, is to choose a jacket so that it covers the buttocks, while leaving the legs open as much as possible. Following this advice will help to even out the proportions of your body and visually make them ideal.

The best-looking jacket is one whose bottom edge roughly divides the distance from the floor to the collar in half.

  • Shoulder width

For an athletic, harmonious figure, the following rule is unshakable: the shoulder line should strictly correspond to the width of the man’s shoulders. In cases where the figure would benefit from being given more masculinity, for example, with sloping shoulders, it is permissible to choose a jacket with a shoulder line that is slightly wider than the actual one.

  • Volume in the chest

Ideally, the distance between the body and the fabric is approximately equal to the thickness of the palm. It is permissible to choose looser models, but here you should make sure that there is no excess volume at chest level in different body positions.

  • Sleeve length

The jacket sleeve should end at the bone level, then the shirt sleeve should stick out a few centimeters. It is better to take one of your shirts with you when trying on a new jacket to accurately select the ideal sleeve length.

  • Jacket style and silhouette

The most important thing in choosing a men’s jacket is to choose the right size. This rule applies not only to the jacket, but to the wardrobe as a whole. A precisely chosen size will certainly ensure a good fit and silhouette, you will only have to choose a style that will hide flaws better than others and emphasize the advantages of the figure.

The rest is a matter of taste. If you like tighter clothes, choose a fitted jacket. You can adjust the shape of your face with the width and length of the lapels, and your height with the length of the garment.

Important! Sizes from different manufacturers do not always correspond to the same standard, so focus on your reflection in the mirror and your feelings, and not on the numbers indicated on the tag.
