It was an exciting day of cricket! Pakistan and New Zealand played their second T20 encounter in Dunedin. But guess what? Visit baji for more cricket news.
It started to rain, and the game ran less than normal. So, instead of 20 overs for each team, both teams got only 15 overs to play. Let’s find out what happened!
Pakistan’s Turn to Bat 🏏
Pakistan was the first team to bat. They intended to score as many runs as possible. But Pakistan found it difficult since New Zealand’s bowlers were rather clever.
- Hasan Nawaz went out without scoring any runs. One refers to something as a “duck.”
- Mohammad Haris scored 11 runs but was caught out.
- Pakistan’s top players were having a terrible time!
The day was then Captain Salman Agha who saved Pakistan. He batted fearlessly and made 46 runs in just 28 balls! He hit 4 fours and 3 sixes. Wow! That’s a lot of big hits!
His teammate, Shadab Khan, also played brilliantly, scoring 26 runs off 14 balls. Later, Shaheen Afridi also scored 22 runs without getting out from some good strikes.
Pakistan had 135 runs for 9 wickets at the end of their 15 overs. It was better than their last game, but maybe not enough runs to worry New Zealand.
New Zealand Starts to Bat 🚀
Now, it came time for New Zealand. The first-over bowler from Pakistan Shaheen Afridi did not let them run! That was great excitement!
But suddenly, everything changed! 😲
- Finn Allen started hitting big shots everywhere! He scored 38 runs in just 16 balls.
- Tim Seifert also blasted the ball to generate 45 runs off 22 balls.
They soon had lots of runs on the scoreboard after striking multiple sixes and fours! New Zealand!
Pakistan Fights Back 👀
Pakistan persisted without giving up. They began marking wickets:
- Seifert’s departure helped Mohammad Ali to get his first wicket!
- Two other wickets were Jahandad Khan and Haris Rauf.
- Shadab Khan sent Daryl Mitchell back to the pavilion with an amazing diving grab.
It seemed as though Pakistan may make a comeback for a split second. Still, New Zealand needed just a few runs, and its skipper Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Hay gently completed the task.
With approximately three overs left to play, New Zealand ultimately scored 137 runs and won by five wickets.
What Did We Learn?
Thanks to Captain Salman Agha and his colleagues, Pakistan performed better than in past games.
- New Zealand’s Finn Allen and Tim Seifert were too powerful at the start.
- The bowlers from Pakistan gave it their all and picked some decent wickets.
Now leading 2-0 in the five-match series, New Zealand was too good this time!
